US President Trump made an unexpected trip to US Soldiers at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. He visited the soldiers on a special day; Thanksgiving.

President Trump also met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. He stated that the US is going to withdraw its troops “substantially” in Afghanistan, but did not say how much. There are now about 14,000 US soldiers in Afghanistan.

It was the first time Trump had been in Afghanistan since he took office as president. The visit is one week after an exchange of prisoners between the US and Kabul which strengthened the hope that there will be new peace talks.
