NIH: ‘More Than 40 Americans’ On ‘Corona Cruise Ship’ Are Infected With The 2019-nCov Coronavirus

An official from the National Institute of Health (NIH) said Sunday that more than 40 Americans on the quarantined cruise ship ‘Diamond Princess’ in Japan, have been infected with the virus.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said this in an interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS’s ‘face the nation.’ In the interview, Fauci said that the infected Americans would be treated at hospitals in Japan. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on Saturday that about 400 Americans were set to be evacuated from the cruise ship and flown back to the US.

Fauci also said that they would be subjected to a 14-day quarantine on military bases in Texas and California. “The reason for that is that the degree of transmissibility on that cruise ship is essentially akin to being in a hot spot, said Fauci.” According to Fauci passengers who start showing symptoms on the plane will be ‘segregated within the plane.’

The flight back to the US is due to depart from Japan on Sunday.
