The deal still needs to be ratified by all three countries but it seems the White House and House Democrats are on the brink of a new North American trade agreement, in what would give President Trump a major legislative victory.
Multiple sources have told FOX Business sources that they have reached the agreement The White House and AFL-CIO did not immediately respond to requests for comment. President Trump announced the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) more than a year ago. Negotiations with House Democrats have been ongoing since, with Democratic leaders like House Speaker Nanci Pelosi pushing especially for climate regulation and stronger labor protection. President Trump has repeatedly hammered Peloci for her decision not to bring the USMCA up for a vote to date, accusing her of delaying it just to obstruct. One of the most important questions in recent weeks was whether Mexico would agree, but majority leader leader Ricardo Monreal said the Senate is ready to approve the needed changes. As a result Mexico’s peso strenghtened.
