People who want to rent a room or home in Beijing through Airbnb have to wait until May to do so. Airbnb has announced it will suspend room rentals in the Chinese capital due to the 2019-nCoV virus outbreak.
Airbnb is responding to a request from local authorities for a further suspension of room rentals. Previously, the rental platform had already suspended room rental until March. The measures taken by the Chinese local authorities are intended to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further and affecting tourists. Beijing is one of the largest tourist destinations in China.
“In accordance with the guidance from local authorities for the short term rental industry during this public health emergency, bookings of all listings in Beijing with check-in from 7 February 2020 to 30 April 2020 have been suspended,” Airbnb said in its statement Wednesday. “This measure is based on official guidance that applies to all companies in the short term rental industry operating in Beijing.”
Airbnb users who had booked a room or home during the period simply get their money back, the company states. In addition to Beijing, Airbnb has also shut down rentals in Yongchuan and Yongchuan Wuxi regions.
